Theatre Artist and Rare Disease Patient Advocate, Tonia Sina, is partnering with the Namron Players Theatre for an evening of vignettes performed by local artists portraying real stories of chronically ill and disabled patients. There will also be an exhibit portion that will showcase photography, fine art, and other projects.

The performance will take place on May 19 at the Norman Depot, 200 S Jones Ave. Tickets will be $5 at the door and the proceeds from raffle prizes will go towards The Ronald McDonald House of Oklahoma City, a non-profit dedicated to helping support families of patients while their children are in the hospital. At 6:30 pm the doors will open and audience members can enter the fundraising raffle and view some of the visual art for this event. At 7:30 pm the performance will begin, and should last about 1 hour.

Sina has been raising awareness for rare and chronic diseases on her blog, “Kidneys and Pinups” and through her Facebook page, The Beauty in Illness. Along with two other rare disease patients, Megan Christine Russo and Jesse Marimat, she shares articles and original photos portraying illness and disabilities in a beautiful and artistic lens, and encourage others to post as well. Their goal is to raise awareness for chronic illness and build confidence in patients using the arts as they struggle with day to day survival. This performance will feature Sina’s own original theatrical movement pieces, along with photography, dance, music, poetry, performance art, and theatrical monologues from other local artists.
